Chiropractic Care
Dr. Brenda Houg is knowledgeable in spinal and chiropractic adjustments. The purpose of spinal adjustments is to return the spine to a natural state of health and to reduce pain, muscle spasms, and nerve irritation, so you can enjoy your life pain free.
Auto Accident Injuries
Dr. Houg understands the stress and pain patients are in following personal injury accidents. We analyze, diagnose, and create an individualized treatment plan for whiplash and soft tissue injuries. We will thoroughly explain your treatment and update your insurance agency on your behalf.
Work Related Injuries
Most work injuries are caused by overuse and repetitive stress injuries. Overtime, small tasks done with poor posture can lead to acute and chronic pain, which can result in reduced worker productivity, lost time from work, disability, and an inability to perform job tasks.
DOT Physicals
Dr. Houg is a Certified Medical Examiner who is capable of completing your DOT physical to receive your DOT Medical Card. These appointments are scheduled at a 30 minute time frame, and do require a urinalysis to screen for diabetes. You will also need to know the names of your prescription medications, if any.

Employment & School Physicals
Dr. Houg is qualified to complete employment physicals, as well as school sports physicals. These appointments are a $25 charge that are not sent to insurance. If your child gets their physical done with us, the King Devick Concussion Test that is now required with most school sports physicals is included in the charge.
*Note: Some doctors do not offer the King Devick Concussion Test. If your child already had their physical done elsewhere with a doctor who doesn't do this test, Dr. Houg can see your child to complete the concussion form if needed by your child's school.
X-Ray
Dr. Houg earned her Certificate of Proficiency in X-Ray in 1993 from the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology.
Although an XRay is not required to become a patient or get adjusted, sometimes an X-Ray is necessary if a patient has an injury that it showing signs of a broken bone.
If you are transferring to our clinic from a different chiropractic clinic, or have had past complications where X-Rays were needed, it is helpful (but not necessary) to get a copy of your past X-Rays from that place of service and bring the photos or burned CD with to your appointment.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which Dr. Houg puts special cups on your skin for a period of time to create suction. People get this therapy done for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
People mostly use cupping to relieve conditions that cause pain. Some experts say it also helps with chronic (ongoing) health issues such as arthritis, back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, asthma, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches/migraines etc.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Therapeutic ultrasound is often used for treating chronic pain and promoting tissue healing. It may be recommended if you experience any of the following conditions:
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- shoulder pain, including frozen shoulder
- tendonitis
- ligament injuries
- joint tightness
- fluid buildup in ears
Muscle Stimulation Therapy
Whether you’re recovering from an injury or stroke or dealing with the pain of fibromyalgia or another condition, you may benefit from a physical therapy procedure called electrical stimulation, or e-stim.
E-stim sends mild electrical pulses through the skin to help stimulate injured muscles or manipulate nerves to reduce pain.
E-stim may not be appropriate for everyone, but for many people this painless procedure is accelerating recovery and providing relief from painful or uncomfortable symptoms.
Bloodwork
Dr. Houg is certified to draw your blood and run any blood tests you want done. Our clinic works with Weland Laboratories out of Cedar Rapids, IA.
For bloodwork, we ask that you fast for 12 hours beforehand. We send your blood samples to the lab and they fax back your bloodwork results to our clinic. We typically receive the results back in a few days. Dr. Houg will then have a follow up appointment with you for your bloodwork consultation. If there is anything "off" about your results, she will explain to you why and what you can do to correct it.
Custom Orthotics
Orthotics are medical devices that you wear inside your shoes to correct biomechanical foot issues such as problems with how you walk, stand, or run. They can also help with foot pain caused by medical conditions such as diabetes, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, and arthritis.
Dr. Houg has orthotics on hand in the clinic, where she can mold the orthotic custom to your foot with a thermal gun. Otherwise, our clinic partners with Foot Levers, a popular name brand orthotic company.
If you wish to invest in the higher performance orthotics from Foot Levelers, we simply have you step onto our 3D foot scanner which sends your scan to Foot Levers. They will create a custom orthotic for your feet and mail it to us. This process usually takes 1 week and comes with a satisfaction guarantee.
Financial Policy
We pride ourselves on quality care at a reasonable price and work to make sure all patients get the care they need. We offer flexible payment plans and are in-network with hundreds of insurance carriers. Please read all options below to learn more about our different financial policies and payment options.
SELF PAY OR UNINSURED PATIENTS
For our patients without insurance, we offer a discount per service when payment is made by Cash, Check, or Credit Card at the time of service.
Note: Payments made by card will be charged a 4% processing fee by the credit card machine company. Cash/Check payments have no extra charge.
COMMERCIAL INSURANCE PATIENTS
When possible we will verify your benefits and eligibility on your behalf, however, the benefits quoted to us by your insurance carrier are not a guarantee of eligibility or payment. As a courtesy to you, we will file all necessary forms with your insurance company. If your insurance states a service rendered is not covered, or is applied to your deductible and/or copay, it is then agreed that you are personally responsible for payment of the rendered services.
MEDICARE
The only service that Medicare currently covers is the manual manipulation of the spine in any chiropractic office. Medicare covers 80% of the allowable fee after the deductible has been met by the patient. Any and all other services including exams, x-rays, and therapies are not covered. All additional services will be the responsibility of the patient or supplemental insurance if covered. Most supplemental plans will cover the remainder 20% of the manipulation fee.
MEDICAID/HAWK-I
We are not currently in network with Iowa state insurances such as Medicaid, Hawk-i, Title 19, etc. Therefore, your visit would have to be paid out-of-pocket. We do provide a discount for self-pay patients. If you have any questions regarding prices give our office a call and we would be happy to assist you.
WORKER’S COMPENSATION
If you are injured on the job, your care should be paid for under your Worker’s Compensation insurance. You will need to inform your employer of the accident and obtain the name and address of your employer’s insurance carrier. If you or your employer does not provide us with this information, or if you suspend or terminate care, any fees for services are due immediately.
FLEX PLANS/ HEALTH SAVINGS/ HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNTS
Please inform us if you have one of these types of plans to help with the cost of care. We will be happy to provide you with a statement of your charges for reimbursement.

No matter what your financial or insurance situation our number one goal is to get you the care you need when you need it. We realize that it can be difficult to budge for unexpected health care costs and we offer flexible payment options for all of our patients if needed.
